PART II: THE MUSLIM WORLD

The people of Israel to date have lost 21,182 lives to the Arab world's onslaught
by war and terror against the return of the Jews to their homeland, then
against the establishment of the State of Israel, and then against its survival.
That would be equivalent in proportion to population of 1,165,000 Americans.
The numbers of those injured, maimed, bereaved is many times more.
Also, it was Arab intimidation that led the British Mandatory Government
to violate its trust by slamming shut the gates to the Jewish National Home
just before, during and after the Holocaust. This condemned to death an incalculable
number of Jews.
The obsession with Israel, to which some Arab states have sacrificed their
own better interests, is not entirely rooted in greed for the territory of
Israel. That is scarcely one-half of one percent of the vast lands that have
been granted to Arab rulers since the end of World War I. It cannot be over
"occupation" of Judea and Samaria (West Bank) or "rights of the Palestinians"
for those were not invented until 1967, after the loss of a major war of
aggression against Israel.
Nor is this obsession entirely derived from the doctrine of
wakf – the
doctrine that any land once conquered by Islam can never be relinquished.
There are few, if any, expressions of determination to re-conquer Spain,
Portugal, Sicily, Greece and the Balkans, though all of them were for centuries
under Muslim rule.
The singular component of the obsession, not found in any other political
or territorial dispute, is that Israel is Jewish and the bulk of Israelis
are Jews. For more than 1300 years, the doctrine, tradition and practice
of the Muslim world has been:
-- to keep Jews to subjugation and servitude, so it is intolerable that they
should live in independence and freedom.
-- to hold Jews in degradation and contempt, so it is an affront that they
should redeem their ancient homeland from desolation and make it bloom and
flourish.
-- to despise Jews and force them to bow down to Muslims, so it is insufferable
that the heavily outnumbered Jews can successfully defend themselves against
attacks by coalitions of Arab states.
The historical, political and territorial claims cited to justify these aggressions
are camouflage for a deadly hostility based on 1300 years of Muslim Judeophobia.
Once these claims are put forth, however spurious they may be, those who
invented them come to believe in them with great fervor. Thus, the ill-informed
or semi-informed outsider may easily suppose that grievances held with such
apparent sincerity must be valid.
All endeavors from outside the Middle East to compose a Peace Plan, or the
Mediate a Compromise dash against the rocks of a largely unperceived reality:
That the "Israel-Arab Dispute" or the "Israel-Palestinian Problem" is not
about territorial, political or economic issues and no tinkering with them
can avail. The reality is that Muslim societies cannot reconcile themselves
to the existence of a free and independent Jewish society in their midst.
THE JEW UNDER MUSLIM RULE

There is a myth that before modern Zionism, Jews in Muslim countries enjoyed
tolerance and lived in harmony with their neighbors. It is exactly that –
a myth. Though without substance, it is widely believed. It is cynically
circulated as propaganda, even by the kings of Jordan and Saudi Arabia who
banned any Jew from their own realms even as a visitor.
The myth requires ignorance of the expanse of the Muslim world over the course
of thirteen centuries. The occasional exceptions to persecution were few,
brief, and entirely dependent on submission to Muslim superiority and the
will of the individual ruler. Perhaps no Jew rose higher than Hasdai ibn-Shaprut,
scholar and royal counselor in 10th Century Spain, yet even he wrote of his
yearning to abandon all his position and wealth to seek a place in the world
where Jews were free.
The First Encounter:
In Arabia before Islam, that is until the Seventh Century CE, there were
several large Jewish tribes and some smaller communities. They were loyal
to Judaism, literate, strong, and prosperous through agriculture, craftsmanship
and trade. They founded the city of Yathrib, later renamed Medina.
When Muhammad set out to propagate the new faith of Islam, he expected to
win over the support of the Jews of Arabia. That is why he set the position
for prayer as facing in the direction of Jerusalem – which he soon changed
to Mecca. When the Jewish tribes resolutely clung to their own religion,
they became the victims of the first Muslim military campaign. He attacked
them, with the adherence of Arabs resentful of them and eager for their land
and property. The Jewish tribes put up a fierce defense but, overwhelmed
by numbers, were annihilated. The few surviving Jews in Arabia were expelled
soon after.
Thus the first feat of Militant Islam was to destroy the ancient Jewish
communities of Arabia.
DHIMMI:
Islam soon outgrew its early slogan of "Islam or the Sword" and permitted
non-Muslims to live in the lands they conquered, with the status of
dhimmi ("protected").
This applied to both Jews and Christians as infidels, but the weight fell
far more heavily on the Jews.
There was a code of rules for the Jews as
dhimmi under Muslim rule:
1] They must pay a high annual special tax.
2] They must wear a special, distinctive badge or garment. Medieval Europe
learned this custom and also imposed it on the Jews.
3] They could not testify in court against a Muslim. Any Muslim thus could
bring any charge against a Jew, who was not permitted to defend himself.
4] If a Muslim murdered a Jew, the only penalty was a fine. The fine could
not be imposed without testimony by two Muslims, and therefore was virtually
a legal fiction.
5] Muslims could beat and rob Jews with little chance of official interference
or punishment.
6] Jews were forced to do the hardest and most distasteful labor without
pay, preferably on their Sabbath.
7] Jews were forced to live in a
mellah or
other restricted ghetto-like area. They were forbidden to ride horses or
camels. They were required to step aside for any Muslim passing on the street
or road.
8] Jews must not be greeted with the traditional "peace be with you" because
they have no right to peace.
There were many, many instances of Muslim oppression and violence against
Jews even beyond the Code of the
dhimmi, more
than enough to prove a rule rather than an exception. This lasted as long
as Muslim rule over Jews lasted, with massacres in North African cities in
the 1940s, vicious persecution of those long trapped in Syria, and abductions
and false imprisonments in contemporary Iran.

we will blow them up in Tel-Aviv and in Netanya in Allah's righteousness
against this riff-raff . . . ."

In the verbal-prong of their campaign against Israel and the Jewish people,
the Arabs have adopted a new technique. This is the appropriation of Israelite-Jewish
history and even ancestry as their own, while expunging all evidence to the
contrary.
1] They deny that there was ever a Jewish Temple on Temple Mount in Jerusalem,
while the
waqf religious
authority that was permitted to administer it frantically destroys Jewish-Hebraic
archaeological relics there. A leading Muslim cleric recently announced that
the Western Wall – that was part of the Second Temple – is a Muslim holy
place and when the Arabs retake control of it no Jew will be permitted to
come near enough to touch it.
They deny any Israelite-Jewish connection to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Hebron,
Shechem (for which the Arabic name Nablus derives from the Greek Neopolis)
and other cities in the land. Yet, if there had been no Jewish history in
those towns they would today be mere tells, known only to archaeologists
if at all.
The Amman Historical Museum in Jordan has exhibitions on all periods of history
in "Palestine" except for Israel-Judah, the only sovereign nation states
that ever existed there. Apparently, the Canaanites, who worshipped their
idols by human sacrifice of their children, made it the Holy Land.
2] Abraham was an Iraqi, and had no connection to the Jews.
3] Jesus was a Palestinian.
4] The Cave of Machpelah in Hebron, the traditional tomb of Abraham and Sarah,
Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Leah, is a Muslim holy place where Jews must
not be permitted to enter.
At the same time they deny biblical history, they purloin it in their own
favor:
1] The Arabs are David and the Jews are Goliath. In this incarnation, a David
with a vast, vast numerical superiority over Goliath. (This mathematical
flimflam is managed by counting as "David" only the Arabs west of the Jordan
River.)
2] The Israeli government that entered the Oslo Accords was willing to divide
the Land of Israel with the newcomer Arabs. The Arabs turned this into a pseudo-biblical
taunt: "You are willing to cut the baby in half, so that proves you are not
the mother".
Schizophrenia on the Nazis and the Holocaust
:
From the 1930s onward, the Arabs were strongly pro-Nazi, and indeed their
attacks on Jews were subsidized by German funds. Today, Arabic translations
of
Mein Kampf
is a hot seller throughout Muslim communities.

Haj Amin al-Husseini, scion of one of the most prominent Arab families, was
appointed by the British to be Muslim Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. He spent
most of World War II in Germany, as Hitler's friend and special advisor on
The Final Solution to the Jewish Question. His advice: Do not expel them,
kill them. Among his successful activities: Intervened to prevent the escape
of 900 Jewish children in the death camps. He looked forward to the future
when he could "settle the Jewish question in
Palestine along the lines similar to those used to solve the Jewish question
in Germany and Italy".
In the 1950s, Anwar Sadat, who had been in a British prison as a German agent
in Egypt, published an open love letter to Adolf Hitler.
Ahmad Ragab, columnist for the Egyptian newspaper
Al-Akhbar,
wrote a comment that pleased him so much that he printed it twice over, April
20 and April 25, 2001. Excerpts from the translation by MEMRI:
"Thanks to Hitler, of blessed memory, who on behalf of the Palestinians,
revenged in advance, against the most vile criminals on the face of the earth.
Although we do have a complaint against him for his revenge on them
was not enough."
Yet, the same Arabs who have such admiration and affection for the real Nazis,
use their name for the maximum vilification of Israel, that is on every available
occasion denounced as "Nazi" or "Nazi-like". This is designed to cause maximum
revulsion against Israel, and at the same time cause maximum pain to Jews.
For this end, it seems to problem to have simultaneously two absolutely opposite
and self-contradictory positions on the same subject.
Similarly, there are also two simultaneous and self-contradictory positions
on the Holocaust:
1] It never happened, It is a lie invented by Jews to get sympathy.
2] It was a good thing but unfortunately did not finish the job
and kill all the Jews.
The Muslim governments themselves adopt Nuremberg standards in diplomacy.
Saudi Arabia once happily accepted a British nomination for ambassador, a
Christian with impeccably pro-Arab and anti-Israel credentials. Then a London
newspaper revealed that he had one Jewish grandparent, and the Saudis declared
him
persona non grata
. The government of Iran recently rejected a British nomination for ambassador
on the charge – presumably incorrect – that the man was of Jewish ancestry.
So much for the long-repeated mantra: "We are not anti-Jewish, just anti-Zionist".
1] Some of the lies are hoary, such as the Blood Libel – that Jews murder
non-Jews because they must use their blood in baking Passover matzah. A case
of this in Ottoman-ruled Syria in the 1940s, instigated by the French consul,
cost the suffering and death of many innocent Jews. The current Foreign Minister
of Syria is author of a book further promoting the Blood Libel.
A professor at King Faysel University in Saudi Arabia, reveals even more
Jewish atrocities in articles in the government-run daily Al-Riyadh, March
2002: "Special Ingredient For Jewish Holidays is Human Blood From Non-Jewish
Youth "
I chose to [speak] about the Jewish holiday of Purim, because it is connected
to the month of March. This holiday has some dangerous customs that will,
no doubt, horrify you, and I apologize if any reader is harmed because of
this. During this holiday, the Jew must prepare very special pastries, the
filling of which is not only costly and rare - it cannot be found at all
on the local and international markets.
Unfortunately, this filling cannot be left out, or substituted with any alternative
serving the same purpose. For this
holiday, the Jewish people must obtain human blood so that their clerics
can prepare the holiday pastries. In other words, the practice cannot be
carried out as required if human blood is not spilled!!
Before I go into the details, I would like to clarify that the Jews' spilling
human blood to prepare pastry for their holidays is a well-established fact,
historically and legally, all throughout history. This was one of the main
reasons for the persecution and exile that were their lot in Europe and Asia
at various times. [. . . . ]
Today, I would like to tell you how human blood is spilled so it can be used
for their holiday pastries. The blood is spilled in a special way. How is
it done?" "For this holiday, the victim must be a mature adolescent who is,
of course, a non-Jew - that is, a Christian or a Muslim. His blood is taken
and dried into granules. The cleric blends these granules into the pastry
dough; they can also be saved for the next holiday. In contrast, for the
Passover slaughtering, about which I intend to write one of these days, the
blood of Christian and Muslim children under the age of 10 must be used .
. . .
[Deleted -- gruesome details on the techniques of bloodlettng] . . . Thus,
the victim suffers dreadful torment - torment that affords the Jewish vampires
great delight as they carefully monitor every detail of the blood-shedding
with pleasure and love that are difficult to comprehend.
After this barbaric display, the Jews take the spilled blood . . . and the
Jewish cleric makes his coreligionists completely happy on their holiday
when he serves them the pastries in which human blood is mixed. The human
race refuses even to look at the Jewish pastries, let alone prepare them
or consume them!"
[Comment: The Jews do indeed bake special pastries for the festival of Purim.
The traditional ingredients are poppy seeds and prune or date jam.]
2] The Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a forgery from 19th Century Czarist
Russia, that invents a Jewish plot to first dominate and then corrupt the
whole world. This work is still much favored in the Muslim world. A King
of Saudi Arabia had elegantly illuminated copies printed to distribute to
guests and journalists.
The government-controlled television of Egypt – a state that has signed but
not adhered to a peace treaty with Israel, is featuring it in a special production.
Excerpts from a report by MEMRI, 6 December
2001, "Ramadan TV Special: The Protocols of the Elders of Zion":
During the second half of Ramadan, a number of television stations, including
Egyptian stations, will be screening the thirty-part series "Horseman Without
a Horse," starring the well-known Egyptian actor Muhammad Subhi and a cast
of 400 others from Egypt, Syria, and France. The series, whose budget ran
six to eight million Egyptian pounds . . . .
In a report on the series, the Egyptian weekly Roz Al-Youssuf described it
as the 'first of its kind' – both artistically, . . . . The following are
excerpts from a report on the series:
For the first time, the series' writer courageously tackles the 24 Protocols
of the Elders of Zion, revealing them and clarifying that they are the central
line that still, to this very day, dominates Israel's policy, political aspirations,
and racism [ . . . . ] '[In order to examine] whether the Protocols of the
Elders of Zion are an invention – as [the Jews] claim – all we have to do
is to trace the [implementation of the] 24 protocols; if we find that some
of them have come to pass, we must expect that the rest also will. Subhi
followed Al-'Aqqad's advice, and found that 19 of the 24 protocols had [already]
been put into practice. "By means of the series
. . . I am exposing all the Protocols of the Elders of Zion that have been
implemented to date, in a dramatic, comic, historic, national, tragic, and
romantic manner."
Israeli soldiers perpetrated a massacre in Jenin. [This is an update of the
charge that Israel in the War of Independence massacred Arab civilians in
the town of Deir Yassin. That one was long believed even by Israelis, but
has now been proven false.]

In "Hatred of Jews - an integral part of Palestinian ideology", PMW (Palestinian
Media Watch) 11 February 2002 defines specific points of doctrtine in Muslim
sources:
Jews are the enemies of Allah.
The killing of a Jew is a religious obligation.
All agreements with Israel are only temporary.
Islam is fighting a religious war against the Jews.
Palestinians are the vanguard in this war against the Jews, but all Islam
is obligated
to assist them.
All the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea is Islamic
trust,
and any Muslim who relinquishes his land is damned to hell.
Allah will replace Muslims who shirk their duty to fight Israel.
The ultimate destruction of Israel is a certainty.
For years past, the material assembled by PMW (Palestinian Media Watch) was
supplied to governments of Israel. The failure of the governments to learn
from that material is exposed in the newspaper
Ma'ariv, 2
April 2002. From "The Incitement that Raised the Generation of Suicide [Terrorists].
. .", by Eli Kamir:
Over the last few years, [PMW director] Itamar Marcus has sent tens, if not
hundreds, of letters to Israeli government Ministers.
"Attached pleases find" he would write them, "a new study, with
many examples from the Palestinian media. Note what is going on there. This
must be addressed now.
There is hardly a field that Marcus has not covered in his research: articles,
caricatures, crosswords, schoolbooks, poems, mosque sermons.
The common denominator: preaching hatred and destruction of Israel,
portraying the Jew as a bloodthirsty murderer, Israeli soldiers as monsters,
the Prime Minister as a child-killer, Israeli cities including those inside
the Green Line as Arab towns, and relating Islam's commandment to kill Jews
as part of the holy War over Jerusalem.
Most of the government Ministers had, for years, considered Marcus an annoyance:
an eccentric who insists, in the days of the peace process, to focus on the
unimportant, on the past. Those who
did respond to him dismissed Marcus with the promise that only once a permanent
status agreement is made with the Palestinians will they be able to avail
themselves to the next phase: [stopping the] educating to hatred, incitement
to kill Jews.
"Now everyone is surprised how we reached this situation" said Marcus this
week "The writing on the wall has been too big to miss.
How can peace be achieved when education is for war?
Who will agree to compromise with us while being incessantly urged
to kill us?" [, , , , ]
"The fact, however, is that the hatred, the willingness of hundreds of youths
to commit suicide just in order to kill Jews, the willingness to take two
Israelis who made a wrong turn, barbarically lynch them and immerse their
hands in their blood is much beyond being the product of military conflict,
economic distress or political despair.
This is an ingrained, deep-rooted and burning hatred.
Its foundations were laid by dozens of textbooks, caricatures, films,
and daily propaganda presented for years in the official
"The grand paradox is that it was the Oslo Accords, which were supposed to
break down the barriers between the nations, to build a reality of trust
and mutual respect so that the nations could live side by side, produced
exactly the opposite. The [Palestinian] Authority officials found themselves
free to control the hand that rocks the educational cradle and so along with
mothers 'milk the Palestinian child drank large portions of pure poison for
their Israeli neighbors.
"The generation of Palestinian suicide [terrorists] is a new generation.
This is a generation whose principal acquaintance with Israel is through
the eyes of the fundamentalist preachers, the anti-Semitic undercurrents
of the caricatures, the virulent headlines in the media and the manipulations
of the kindergarten and schoolteachers.
All these, one way or another, are directly subordinate to the Palestinian
Authority, to Yasser Arafat. [. . . .] From his early childhood the Palestinian
child enters an organized system which constructs in him a deep hatred towards
anything having to do with Israel or with Jews." [. . . .]
In a special study that examined the incitement in mosques, Itamar Marcus
found that there is a direct, unequivocal correlation between the cruel acts
of murder carried out by Palestinians to the preaching of the religious leaders,
televised on the official Palestinian Authority TV. Numerous examples from
the TV calling to kill Jews were broadcast before the outbreak of the current
violence. "This proves," says Marcus, "that the inciteful sermons provided
the basis for the murders, and were not a response, following the outbreak."
The Judeophobia always vented on Jews under Muslim rule is reaching out to Jews everywhere, and especially in the United States.
Egyptian media have also revived and circulated an earlier German forgery
in which vehemently anti-Jewish statements are falsely attributed to George
Washington, Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln.
From a report by MEMRI, 8 February 2002, on statements of a Saudi Government
Official: "Bin Laden Hero, American Jews are 'Brothers of Apes and Pigs':
Abdallah Bin Matruk Al-Haddal, a Saudi preacher from the Ministry of Islamic
Affairs in Saudi Arabia, . . . . [a]fter praising Bin-Laden, for defending
Islam against American oppression, went on: 'I don't believe that the attack
on America [on September 11th] was perpetrated by bin Laden or the Muslims.
. . . I believe it was a scheme. What is happening now is a continuation
of an ancient attack. It is a continuation of the Jewish deception and the
Jewish-Zionist wickedness which infiltrates the U.S . . . .
"I am surprised that the Christian U.S. allows the 'brothers of apes and
pigs' [meaning the Jews] to corrupt it. [The Jews] have murdered the prophets
and the messengers. [The Jews] are the most despicable people who walked
the land and are the worms of the entire world. They are all evil. And why?
Because they are deceiving and plotting aggressors . . . . Jewish fingerprints
have infiltrated the U.S. Jewish evil and deception are those who attacked
the U.S. [on September 11th]. Osama bin Laden fought against the opposing
falsehood and oppression that is generated by the evil and deceptive Jewish-Zionism
. . . . "

An Egyptian-born historian who writes under the name Bat-Ye'Or [Daughter
of the Nile], quoted in "Dhimmi for Dummies":
For Muslims, the world is divided into the dar al-Harb, land controlled by
non-Muslims that forms the "territory of war," and the dar al-Islam, the
land where Islamic law prevails. Historically, a peace is not a peace --
and a time of peace longer than a decade is occasion not for relaxation but
for feeling inadequate and fidgety. Infidels should never be allowed to rest
on their laurels, famed 14th century Muslim jurist Ibn Taymiyya asserted,
for any land they possess is held illegitimately.
